DISCLAIMER

I am not a veterinarian. I am not a nutritionist. I am not a behaviourist. I am a pet owner, pet parent, pet companion, whatever you want to call it. I love animals, always have. When I was little I wanted to be a veterinarian, until I was informed I would have to put animals down, which immediately put a cobosh on that idea. Although I did not pursue a career as a veterinarian I continued to share my life with all sorts of creatures.

Over the years that I worked in the natural pet food and supply store I have mentioned in previous posts, I assisted thousands of people in feeding and supplementing their pets, as well as purchasing other pet related products and I truly enjoyed it. I loved my job but did not love the retail aspect of it. I truly enjoy helping people find the right diet, supplement, toys or whatever else, for their pets. There were a lot of rewards for me over those years when customers would come back into the store and thank me for helping them with their pet, because they had seen positive changes. Sometimes it was just a matter of providing them with a small tidbit of information, which set their mind on a different path. I missed that and so I decided to start this blog and website.

Much of my knowledge comes from those years working with natural pet foods and supplements. The owners of the store made it mandatory that the staff learn, constantly. We had monthly learning seminars with the nutritionists, sales reps, business owners who had developed their own foods or products and sometimes even the scientists involved in developing supplements. All of the staff I was privledged to work with were also extremley knowledgable and many of them had been working with and using natural alternatives for many years. So, I was able to pick brains at every turn, as well as learn on my own.

It was during my time in that retail world I developed my passion for nutrition and learned even more how important proper nutrition is, not only for us but for our companion animals as well.

When my dog, Tailey, developed mammary cancer the second time, at the age of 10, I started going to a holistic veterinarian and I began to learn more about using herbs and other alternative methods. I eventually began making my own herbal tinctures, oinments and other concoctions. I had already been making my own dog food for several years at this time and I was seeing so many positive changes in my animals, I now pretty much only ever use natural products, with the exception of a few household products, but that will change in time too.

So why did I decide to write this post? I have had a few conversations since starting this blog and wanted to set the record straight. I am here because I have a passion and I want to share it and be involved in it. Blogs are here for people to share their opinions, passions, whatever and that is why I am here. I hope I am able to help people, even if it's a little thing, it may mean a lot to that person. I am not purporting to be an expert, of anything I am just sharing what I have learned and what I have experienced.

So, feel free to comment, feel free to read and hate it or love it and if you choose not to read anymore, that's okay too at least you gave me a chance. What I have to say and what I believe isn't going to be for everyone, but if you like it I hope you come back for more.
